Alaskan Yellow Cedar
Coniferous Evergreen Tree
Alaska Yellow Cedar, also known as Alaska Cypress and Nootka Cypress is commonly found along the Pacific coast from Northern Washington State, through British Columbia and into Southern Alaska. The species generally reaches matures heights of 75-125 feet, dependent on climate and soil conditions.
Best growth is obtained on slopes with deep, well drained soils. It also does well on thinner soils over bedrock and can grow in less fertile soil conditions. The species prefers a cool, humid climate and is usually found at elevations of 2000 feet, with the exception of mid-coastal British Columbia, where it is found closer to sea level. It is generally considered shade tolerant.
