Description: The Lady Fern is one of the most common species of the fern species, which reach a mature height of only 1-3 feet. It is native to North America and has a wide distribution across North America, including all Canadian Provinces and all continental U.S. States, including Alaska. Itís clumped profile with mostly upright green, lance-shaped leaves make it adaptable for many uses from ground cover to individual shrub. In the wild, it is often found in wet, forested areas, along stream and riverbanks and along swamp borders.


Site Conditions: The Lady Fern prefers loose, loamy type soil that is well drained and slightly acidic. It prefers moist soil, but is tolerant of wet soil, providing it is not fully saturated. It prefers partial shade conditions and is tolerant of full shade exposure.
